— the wine —
We produce one wine only, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced solely from the family vineyard in Rutherford. The inaugural vintage was in 2007, released in August 2011. Our brand’s production quantity is variable depending on how the growing season evolves, but on average, we produce 450 cases per year.
Our wine’s journey from grape to bottle relies on the vineyard’s exceptional fruit quality and the skill of our winemaker, Aaron Pott. Grapes grown on the Greer site express an abundance of lush tight-grained tannins that, when extracted and polymerized, remain soft as silk, creating just the right depth and density. The wine is fermented using indigenous yeast and bacteria. Nothing is added to inhibit the precise expression of terroir. To guarantee age-worthiness, Aaron packs tons of those silky tannins into the wine and shows it as little oxygen as possible. It is this purity of process that creates a multi-dimensional tasting experience recognized by our discerning clientele. The wine is aged in French oak, 60% new and 40% once used. The overall result is a relatively low alcohol, elegant, impeccably balanced wine structured to age as well as any fine Bordeaux.
2018 was our first vintage submitted for review and has received high ratings from Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Lisa Perrotti-Brown. Greer Wine has a cult-like following, consistently receiving high praise from wine enthusiasts on forums, including Wine Berserkers and Cellar Tracker.
