— Behind the label —

Original LION J. Owen Greer

Our label connects the vineyard to the Greer family heritage through the adaptation of circa 1880 artwork by Rob’s great-grandfather, J. Owen Greer—a calligrapher in Coshocton, Ohio. The original piece—a large-scale advertisement poster created to promote J. Owen’s calligraphy and flourishing teachings—was later passed on to Rob as a family heirloom by his grandfather. The remaining two art pieces from the series—an elephant and a rabbit—are on display in a museum in Coshocton.

Marianne Agnew, a notable Napa Valley graphic artist, developed the label design. Each label is handcrafted using separate letterpress printing and engraving techniques on ultra-thick stock and applied manually to each bottle. The bottle itself is crafted from the original Bordeaux bottle from 1855. For the 3- and 6-liter bottles, the lion and vintage years are engraved directly into the glass.
